Fitting Your Ceramic Filter Bench Top
- Remove the aerator screen from the tap spout by unscrewing.
- If your spout has an external thread then the diverter valve will screw straight onto it.
If your spout has an internal thread then you will need to screw the threaded adaptor supplied into the spout before attaching the diverter valve. - When the lever is straight down this allows you to run hot & cold water for washing up.
- To produce purified water turn on the cold water tap then turn the lever across, this diverts the water through the filter and out the filter spout.
- Flush filter on first use (see below)
Please note: Never filter hot water.
Maximum filter life is 12 months.
Flush Ceramic Filters before using
Ceramic filters need to be fully saturated with water within the housing before use. Unscrew the sump (the top component of the housing) from the base and place the unwrapped ceramic filter inside of it.
Place the unit in a sink and fill the sump with water to saturate it. Re-attach the filter housing base.
Hand tighten the base only. The spanner is only to be used for undoing the housing.
Flush to waste the first 5 – 10 litres or, until water becomes clear and has no bubbles – this removes any mineral fines and air from new filters.
If water appears to have tiny bubbles (or a white appearance), this is caused by air being trapped in the filter and will go away with use or flushing.
Cleaning System and Replacing Filters
Ceramic filters can be cleaned by scrubbing the outer surface with a stiff brush or scourer – do not use other abrasives or cleaning products – replace filters at 12 months.
Turn the system upside down and undo the sump by unscrewing from the right turning to the left. Empty out any residual water.
Remove and dispose of old filter, then use a bottlebrush to clean inside the filter housing and head.
Carefully remove and clean o-ring, then use some veggie or cooking oil on the o-ring to keep it supple – this prolongs their life and makes the sumps easier to undo at next filter change.
Sterilising System
Half-fill the housing sump with water and add roughly 10 ml of liquid pool chlorine or household bleach. Replace the filter sump without the new filter, turn incoming water supply on until water comes out the filter tap.
Turn water supply tap off and let sterilise for a minute, remove the housing sump and rinse with clean water. The new filter will remove any chlorine residue after rinsing.
Replacing Filter
- Turn the system upside-down and fit the new filters into the housing sump.
- Make sure the housing O-ring is in place, otherwise it may be damaged and system may leak.
Screw the filter sump and housing head together and lightly hand tighten. - Never use a housing spanner to tighten the filter sump – these are for unscrewing only.
- Flush filters for 5 – 10 litres as per above. Mark the date on the filter or a calendar when the next replacement filter is due.
If your system has a pull out spring return shut off diverter valve, over time it may be come sticky and not return all the way in.
Simply pull the knob out and put a couple of drops of cooking oil on the shaft and work in and out to help free up.
