What micron rating should I choose?
For most ice bath users, we recommend the 20 micron filter. It’s our most popular seller as it strikes the right balance between filter performance, flow rate and filter longevity.
A 20 micrton will effectively capture sediment, skin cells, and hair without restricting water circulation in your tub.
If your ice bath is used heavily and find that water quality drops quickly, you may decide you need a finer 10 micron filter. It will capture more material but may block faster.
Conversely, you may decide that a 50 micron is better option as it will have a longer lifespan and be able to tolerate heavy use. The 50 micron rating is best suited to situations where flow rate is the priority and the water is relatively clean to begin with.
The 5 micron option provides the highest level of filtration but will need replacing more often as it captures more particulate. If you only use the ice bath a few times a week and want the best water quality, it is usually ther best option.
You will need to consider your ideal water quality levels, your filter budget and how often you want to change the filter to determine which micron rating is best. Some experimentation may be required!
How often should I replace my ice bath filter?
As a general guide, if you use your ice bath regularly then replace your filter every 3 to 4 weeks. If you only use your ice bath intermittently, you may get much longer from the filter.
Filter lifespan will vary based on a few factors including :
- How clean your source water is initially
- How often the ice bath is used
- Micron rating (How much material it captures)
- How clean people are when they enter
If you notice reduced water clarity, unusual odours replace it sooner regardless of how long it’s been in use. You can also remove the filter and examine it to see if it needs replacing. If the filter looks very dirty or feels slimey, it may be time to replace it.
Ice baths used daily or by multiple people will require more frequent changes compared to ice baths only used a few times per week.
Can I wash my ice bath filter to extend its life?
Absolutely!
These filters are designed to be washed. Washing will remove sediment from the outer layers of the pleats, opening up the pores and restoring flow rate. If you’d like to get the most value-for-moey and longevity from your filter, then wash it.
To wash the filter, follow this process:
- Remove the filter from the ice bath housing
- Rinse it gently under running water to flush out trapped sediment, hair, skin cells etc.
- Reinstall once rinsed
If the filter is very dirty, you can also soak it to losen debris. A solution of 25% distilled white vinegare and 75% water works well. However, we usually prefer Milton’s Baby Bottle wash as it also disinfects the cartridge well.
Rinse well after soaking and be aware that a discoloured filter will never fully return to its original colour.
Avoid scrubbing the filter or using a high powered nozzle to clean it — you will damage the pleated material which would allow bypass.
Please keep in mind that even with washing, your filter may only last 3-4 weeks if the ice bath is in frequent use (longer if it is only used intermittently). Regular washing between replacements will help you get the most out of each cartridge.

Excellent product, better quality than the ones we used to purchase from Amazon. We usually wash them every couple of weeks, can stretch out lifespan to more like 5-6 weeks for us.
